About Pale Kitchen & Arts
Clive Davis – Chef Proprietor
I am a Hereford-born chef who spent 15 years honing my craft in some of London’s top restaurants, including Pied à Terre, Four Seasons with Jean Christophe Novelli, Bibendum, Zafferano with Giorgio Locatelli, and Kensington Place with Rowley Leigh, where I also helped establish and manage the Wet Fish Shop.
In 2009, I realised a dream by opening The Green Café in Ludlow, which earned a Bib Gourmand from Michelin between 2015 and 2017.
After selling the business in 2018, I spent four years at Peter Cooks Bread developing expertise in croissant-related pastries.
Now, with Pale Kitchen, I bring together pastry skills and restaurant experience, offering a daily fresh set menu and pastries served at their peak in an intimate, 14-seat setting.
Janet Austin – Artist Proprietor
I am a Ludlow-based artist, creating subtle, evocative works exploring concepts of personal history and shared memory.
After a 30-year career in the NHS, I am now fully embracing my creativity, focusing on self-expression through mixed media, collage, and digital imagery.
A central theme in my current work is the Welsh concept of “hiraeth”—a deep longing for a home that may no longer exist.
My art serves as a visual diary, blending elements of the past and present to reflect on memory and identity.
Exhibited locally, my pieces resonate through their emotional depth. I take a small number of commissions each year, creating bespoke works with personal significance, and I look forward to sharing the gallery wall here at Pale with other artists whose work I admire.
